He First Served as a Private.
Four-star General Tommy Franks, USA (Ret), head bowed, Patriot Guard Riders. On display at the Tommy Franks Leadersip Institute and Museum. GTF waived his $100k fee for using his name and penned the foreword to Carroll's book, Ode to Joy, just because he wanted to help. The painting was unveiled before 750 Patriot Guard Riders.

"I respectfully remember those who served - My dad was a WWII veteran who served in the Navy Medical Corps, Third Tide on Dog Green (D-Day, June 6, 1944), on APD-78 (DD-693, laid down in Bay City, Michigan) in the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The Patriot Guard was unaware of his funeral in 2007".

This sketch resulted in Carroll's meeting Hall of Fame musician, Jimmy Jack Whitaker, who introduced him to Four-star General Tommy Franks, USA (Ret) who then penned the foreword to Carroll's first book, Ode to Joy. Whitaker wrote four global #1 hits. Whitaker wrote and performed Thank God for the AMVETS. Jimmy's brother committed suicide after serving in Vietnam.
