"My world known doctor dad demanded disciplined excellence and expected immediate virtuosity. His trophy PBK wife, my mother, taught Pediatrics at CHOP, University of Pennsylvania,
was Dr. Nelson's 1st editor of Nelson's North American Pediatrics, etc. etc.
Weekdays she drove me to the Junior Curators Club at The Academy of Natural Science of Drexel (Originally
ANSP, 'of Philadelphia,' est. 1812);
I'd just turned 5 years old.
(I am chagrined to learn on WHYY that ANSP is closing September 27, 2026
and that PAFA is dropping classes! I have so many memories as a 5 y/o, teen and as an ANSP staff member - I can't imagine Philly without the Academy.
It's a landmark of American history.
- Thank God for Alice Walton's AWSOM
and Crystal Bridges Museum!)
"My sister's death began my quest when I was 4 y/o. That's when I began drawing with Crayola's, pen and ink in grad school, then aquarelles (WC).
"I've donated to Parkland Memorial, Baylor Hospital, Dallas Children's, Cook Children's, ... Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, American Heart Assn., etc.
"I waltz on the corpus collosum.
"A global business owner apprised me,
'This [Carroll] will hang between my 2 Picassos and a Chagall on my ranch.' You should have watched him giddily bidding against himself, as if it was Leonardo da Vinci's $350+ million Salvator Mundi
